Putting the Power of Technology and Data into the Hands of Smallholder Farmers
80% of the world’s coffee is grown by smallholders, and most are not earning a living income. Data-driven approaches to improving yields, financial planning and the management of risk could contribute significantly to SDG1 (No poverty) and SDG2 (Zero hunger), yet remain largely inaccessible to smallholders. A major reason is the lack of efficient #data collection methods to generate large volumes of reliable on-farm data from smallholders.
This session at ICTforAg 2022 co-created by Producers Direct brought together leaders in agriculture, scientific research and technology to discuss how recent advances in big data and applications of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence can be made applicable to the smallholder experience.
Speakers:
Claire Rhodes, CEO and Founder, Producers Direct
Davis Gathumbi, Youth Agribusiness Coordinator, Producers Direct
