Biography

Jean Claude NIYOMUGABO is an entrepreneur, sustainable agriculture/climate change advocate, social media influencer, and communication expert passionate about SDG2, 13, and 15. Leveraging his background in conservation agriculture, climate actions, entrepreneurship, and communication, he founded Agirite, a social enterprise that utilizes digital technology to redefine sustainable agriculture communication, access to information, skills in the agriculture value chain, and environmental sustainability. It also connects small scale farmers to markets, training, and financial advisory services

In 2022, he received the title of Youth Agrichampion for Climate Actions from the prestigious Ban Ki-Moon Center for Global Citizens. This recognition was bestowed upon him for his work advocating for small-scale farmers in Africa during COP27, where he advocated to over 120,000 followers on social media platforms. He presented a demand paper emphasizing the need for funding for climate-resilient training and support, access to finance for climate adaptations, and universal agriculture insurance for disaster recovery.

Working with UNICEF Generation Unlimited for 2 years, he advocated for the financial support of youth-led green solutions and youth inclusion in climate policy. In October 2023, his program “Young Engagement in Climate Actions, Agriculture, and Digital Technology” (YECADT) was selected as the Winner of 100 Excellence Action for Global Youth Development 2023 in China by the World Youth Development Forum (WYDF) as it addresses SDGs 2 and 13. Last year, he was selected by Unleash for the first Global Innovation Lab, which gathered around 1,000 young people to collaborate in a 1-week intensive focused on solutions to meet SDGs 13 and 15.
